Current, powered by GE, signs MoU with Khidmah to execute energy-efficient projects in UAE and Saudi Arabia

Dubai, UAE; September 28, 2016: A first-of-its kind energy company that integrates GE’s LED, Solar, Energy Storage and Electric Vehicle businesses, Current, powered by GE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khidmah, a leading, fully-integrated property service solutions provider in the UAE, to execute energy-efficient projects in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The MoU was signed in Dubai by Adel Kamali, COO of Khidmah and Erdem Soyal, General Manager for Middle East and Turkey of Current, powered by GE. One of the first key agreements signed by Current, since the launch of its operations in the region, the MoU with Khidmah aims to support sustainable development efforts undertaken as part of the UAE Vision 2021 and Saudi Vision 2030, by enhancing energy efficiency best practices in the real estate sector.
The initial focus of the agreement is to retrofit Khidmah’s buildings across the UAE with innovative and energy-efficient LED lighting solutions including downlights, panels, tubes, lamps, motion sensors, light fittings and fixtures.
Subsequently, Current will provide smart lighting design services for any developments by the engineering arm of Khidmah, and also provide recommendations on energy-saving lighting for the existing buildings and projects with the support of a lighting designer.

As part of the agreement, Current and Khidmah will identify further energy efficiency opportunities. Current will provide the technology and expertise to Khidmah in the areas of energy management and lighting. The two entities will share knowledge and ideas, and also pool existing resources and expertise to promote energy efficiency initiatives.
Current will extend continuous technical support to Khidmah in the areas of selecting, designing and conducting lighting calculations for LED solutions. It will also develop an effective model for dissemination of skills and knowledge of lighting technologies and trends to Khidmah.
Current brings together GE’s LED, solar, energy storage and electric vehicle businesses into a holistic offering that is currently absent in the industry today. The business portfolio includes sensor-enabled hardware, software, fulfillment, product management and financing solutions. Current will reduce energy costs with a comprehensive set Ecomagination certified LED lighting systems and solar, energy storage and gas fired technology options. Through Predix, GE’s cloud-based platform for the Industrial Internet, Current will analyze energy consumption and provide customers with data around patterns and needs, along with recommendations to increase efficiency.
