World First Aid Day 2013
Khidmah, the Abu Dhabi based property Services Company, recently hosted its “First Fun Aid Day” campaign, organized in partnership with the “Safety First Medical Services”. The event was held to increase awareness of first aid and encouraged involvement from Sun & Sky residents. A number of Khidmah’s residents received hands on training and demonstrations, and were a key support towards the initiative’s huge success.
Khidmah spoke about the importance of first aid training in the United Arab Emirates, as the two largest causes of death in the Emirates are road accidents, and drowning’s. While the authorities continue to prescribe and enforce measures to reduce these accidents, Khidmah stressed that it was important for residents to also be armed with the knowledge, skill and equipment to act as first responders, in an emergency.
Ryan Darnell, the Executive Director of services says “When we began offering our training services to nannies employed by our residents we were startled to see first time pass rates of examinations at less than 50% on average. With this statistic in mind, we set about looking to expand our reach for first aid training across the UAE.”
In 2013, Khidmah expanded the companies’ first aid training beyond lifeguards to include training for professional staff, technicians and residents in various developments, through the United Arab Emirates. As of today, our team have trained 204 of Khidmah’s staff and over 70 residents, which included nannies and parents. Our Managing Director, Mr Abdulla Al Qamzi, set forward a mandate that all Khidmah staff will be trained in First Aid before the end of this year. And presently, we are on track to achieve this target.
Khidmah is now offering Heart Saver, First Aid CPR and AED courses to clients in conjunction with SFMS. These courses includes a mixture of theory and practical exercises to give participants the skill set required in not only dealing with first aid response but also how to deal with real life emergency response scenarios. Today we will also be launching our joint venture with the Emirati owned and operated: Safety First Medical Services in a bid to provide even more First Aid training services across the UAE.
Safety First Medical Services is recognized by the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and affiliated with the American Heart Association (AHA) and operates under the Abu Dhabi Environmental Health and Safety Management System.
Abdulla Al Qamzi, Managing Director of Khidmah, says:
“I believe that the greatest asset Khidmah possesses is its people. That’s why it is of great importance to me that I ensure we protect our staff to the very best of our ability at all times. Most companies may not see the value in investing to train their staff in First Aid training; however Khidmah sees no greater value.
Safety First Medical Services plays a vital role in protecting and preserving our health of our nation. Khidmah is delighted to be able to work together with Safety First Medical Services in providing premier Emergency Medical Services experts that train people with the dynamic knowledge and skills in making their workplace and home a safer place. It’s our commitment to create a long and prosperous partnership with SFMS which contributes to the benefit of all whom live in the UAE. “
